Elizabeth Gagné Calise, 89, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, laughter and adventurous spirit touched everyone who knew her.Born in Maine, Liz’s early years were marked by hardship, but she faced life with resilience, determination and an indomitable spirit. Winning a high school scholarship to Maine Central Institute, she excelled as captain of multiple sports teams and a student leader, before attending the University of Maine. After college, she became a teacher and joined a program educating the children of U.S. Army families overseas. While teaching in Korea, she met and married her husband of 37 years, Bill. Together, they built a life in New York and New Jersey, raising their daughters, Kim and Andrea, and creating a warm, loving home.
Liz spent a decade living in California before returning to New York City, where she enjoyed some of her happiest years in Manhattan. She embraced the city’s vibrancy—delighting in the theater, museums, parks, and countless hours walking its streets. She cherished being close to her daughters and grandchildren, often taking them to shows, museums, and Dylan’s Candy Bar. A passionate tennis player and devoted fan, she also loved attending the U.S. Open.
Known for her energy, elegance and zest for life, Liz was a world traveler (116 countries), amazing cook and fashion icon. She cherished meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and dancing to Neil Diamond. She was a proud mother and grandmother, and her legacy endures in the love she gave so freely and the values she fiercely instilled in her family.
Liz is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Veber and Andrea, her son-in-law Jeffrey, her daughter-in-law Linda and her beloved grandchildren Emma, Julia, Anna, Sophie, Ella, and Lucas. She will be remembered always for her grace, spirit, and unwavering love.
