Westchester County’s Department of Environmental Facilities (WCDEF) a Household Recycling Day event at the Playland parking lot this fall, offering residents convenient and safe opportunities to dispose of household waste. This is a great way to safely clean out and dispose of hazardous materials in your garage or house that should not be placed into regular household trash. Residents can also bring documents for shredding and safely dispose of medication.
The Rye event will be held on Saturday, November 8, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Playland (in the parking lot).
“These Household Recycling Days are designed to keep harmful materials out of the waste stream and give residents peace of mind that their items are being handled properly,” said Westchester County’s Department of Environmental Facilities Commissioner Vincent F. Kopicki. “Every battery, can of paint and electronic device we collect helps protect the environment and our communities.”
Due to the popularity of the events, residents may experience extended wait times. Those who wish to avoid long lines, or cannot attend an event, are encouraged to schedule an appointment at the County’s Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF), and located at 15 Woods Road on the Grasslands Campus in Valhalla. The H-MRF accepts the same items as a Household Recycling Day event and is open year-round, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00am to 3:00pm. Schedule an appointment online or call (914) 813-5425.
In addition to properly labeled household chemicals, tires, scrap metal, electronics, appliances, and other special wastes found in a typical household, residents can bring documents for shredding and expired or unwanted medications for disposal to the HRD Events.
