Local 2029, the local fire fighter union, recently presented donations the the Rye Nature Center and the Rye Free Reading Room.

On Saturday, September 6 the Local 2029 presented $25,000 to the Rye Nature Center. The funds will go towards design and permit work for the new driveway access being planned for the nature center from the snowfield parking lot area.

“A big thank you to the Rye Professional Firefighters for their generous grant supporting driveway improvements to maintain nature access,” said Christine Siller, executive director of the RNC.

Then on Sunday, September 14, Local 2029 dropped $10,000 to the Rye Free Reading Room, on the second day of the library’s annual book sale on the village green.

“The funds go to supporting programs, such as the new Monday story time, and for library collections, such as the NYTimes online for all Rye cardholders, and express collection titles – the bestsellers that are reserved just for residents,” Chris Shoemaker, director of the Rye Free Reading Room told MyRye.com on Monday. “We’re thrilled to have Local 2029 support a lifelong love of reading, and for bringing exciting activities to families and all library patrons.”

The Rye Professional Firefighters union has been stepping up its charitable work in 2024 and 2025.
