RowAmerica Rye placed seventh out of 852 competing programs at the prestigious 2025 Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, October 19, as both the boys and girls teams shined among the significant quality and quantity of competition. The regatta combines both domestic and international programs, and the most crowded races featured up to 85 crews in one heat. Rye placed in the 99th percentile, topping 845 different clubs by combined score.

“RowAmerica Rye delivered an exceptional performance at the 2025 Head of the Charles Regatta, represented by 12 youth crews and a total of 69 athletes,” Head Coach Marko Serafimovski told MyRye.com. “Known as one of the most prestigious head races in the world, this year’s event once again showcased the program’s consistency, competitiveness, and depth of talent.”

The highlight of the day was the Girls Youth Eight (A Boat), which defended its title for the third consecutive year, claiming their fourth straight victory. They set the previous course record by 17 seconds, breaking their own mark in a dominant display of skill, teamwork, and annual consistency.

The Girls Under-17 Eight (Girls Youth 8+ B) came in first place in their category, placing fifth overall out of the 86 boats that raced. Serafimovski called this result a “phenomenal accomplishment” given the impressively “high level of competition” in such a large race at such a significant regatta.

Other notable placements for the girls included 15th in the Youth Double and 4th and 7th place in the Youth Four.

On the boys side, RowAmerica Rye placed 2nd and 7th in the Under-17 Four, 13th in the Coxed Quad, 21st in the Double, and 6th and 27th in the Youth Eight. Their consistency across every event, never finishing any lower than twenty-seventh in any heat throughout the day, helped Rye come within striking distance of a first place finish at one of the most important regattas in the entire United States.

“The Head of the Charles, along with other fall regattas, serves as a cornerstone in RowAmerica Rye’s training cycle, laying the groundwork for the winter and spring racing seasons and, ultimately, the Youth National Championships,” Serafimovski said. “Coaches commended the athletes’ daily commitment and discipline, emphasizing optimism and determination for the months ahead.”

The impressive result is one of many for Rye throughout their history, as their head coach acknowledged. In some cases even, alums of RowAmerica Rye competed against each other in the older age group events of the regatta.

“RowAmerica Rye’s influence extends far beyond the youth level,” Serafimovski concluded. “This year, over 40 alumni competed at the Head of the Charles, representing their respective universities, a testament to the program’s long-term development and excellence.”
