The Rye Football team kept humming along and adding accolades to their trophy case on Friday, November 21, as they downed Minisink Valley 42-14 in the Regional championship game. With the victory, the Garnets remain undefeated in 2025 and are just two wins away from a potential state title.
”It’s a great win again… the first half was just outstanding,” Head Coach Dino Garr told MyRye.com after the victory. “I don’t think we can play a better first half.”
The Garnets scored the first 42 points of the game, fueled by several pivotal moments in the first 30 minutes. Rye’s defense forced a fumble on the opening possession and their special teams snagged the ball on a misplayed squib kick, both leading to seven points. They dominated in the trenches all night, resting starters in the fourth quarter with their comfortable six-score lead.
”I just thought our players did a super job,” Garr continued. “It was a great week of prep leading up to the game.”
Carson Miller, fresh off breaking the Rye program passing yards and TDs record in a single season, tossed three more scores on 244 yards, only throwing three incompletions. Henry Shoemaker, now the program record holder for receiving yards in a single season, hauled in 132 of those yards and one touchdown. Charlie Garnett (2) and Ben Stigliano found pay dirt on the ground, and Luke Denvir caught two touchdowns on two receptions.
Defensively, Rye was dominant. Carsten Steinmann led the way with 10 tackles, and six others had at least five tackles.
The Garnets are two wins away from a potential State championship, and their next game next weekend (date and opponent still TBD) will determine whether they have the opportunity to play “under the dome” for a NYS title to cap off the year.
