The City of Rye Planning Commission moved closer Tuesday evening to greenlighting its approval of The Osborn Home’s expansion plan. Stating clearly they would still be waiting for more feedback from The Osborn on certain inquires made by La Bella, the City’s outside consultant reviewing the project, Planning Commission members indicated they are currently inclined to provide a thumbs up.
It was the seventh meeting for The Osborn at the Planning Commission and its fourth public hearing. The public hearing was brief, lasting only about ten minutes. Much of that time was project representatives speaking about additional remediation they would plan for the the southwest corner of the property, at the corner of Theall Road and Osborn Road. Local residents have expressed concerns and shown video of water running off this area of the property during rain events.
“I feel comfortable that we can give this a negative declaration,” said Planning Chair Nick Everett during the group’s work session – planning ‘speak’ indicating approval.
“I feel like so much of this conversation that’s been out in the public has been about concern about water moving in that direction [the southwest corner of the property, at the corner of Theall Road and Osborn Road], and so when La Bella comes through with the final look and the storm water design review, I’m going to feel comfortable with the rest of it,” said Councilmember Jamie Jensen, who serves as council liaison to planning.
“I just want to add one thing, mostly for the record.,” said Laura Brett. “We raised a lot of issues with the applicant, and they have made a lot of changes in response our questions.”
