The Rye Hockey team picked up their eighth win on an nine-game unbeaten streak on Wednesday, January 14, as they downed Clarkstown 7-2 on the road. The Garnets scored the final five goals of the game after the Bruins tied the game at 2-2 to improve to 8-0-1 since falling to Rivertown in the second contest of the year.
“We battled through some adversity in this game when we allowed Clarkstown to erase a 2-0 lead, but that may have been the wake up call we needed,” Head Coach Pete Thomas reflected to MyRye.com after the victory. “We found another gear and scored the next five goals to put this one away.”
Five different plays scored multiple points for Rye, highlighted by sudden rising star Colin Nigro (2 goals, 1 assist). Jack McGill scored second for the Garnets, his first varsity goal, and added an assist in the third period. Connor Dehmer, Jamie Morris, and Cody Greenhaw also drew blood in both the goal and assist column.
Fernando Mosquero drew the start in goal, making 18 saves on 20 shots before being lifted for some rest after also playing yesterday. Davis Goodman handled all five shots he faced to seal the 7-2 final score.
Rye (9-1-1) could call the cops with their impressive record, but will likely divert their focus to their next game instead, a rematch with Rivertown on Friday, January 16 at 6:20pm. Thomas and his squad will look to finish a 5-0 road trip, 3-0 week, and avenge a 4-2 loss to the Legends from December 10.
