Severe winter weather is headed to the City of Rye.

City officials are telling residents to avoid travel during the storm, and keep vehicles off the streets so DPW and emergency vehicles can do their work. Make sure you have emergency supplies and don’t forget the city code requires you to clear all sidewalks adjacent you your property within 24 hours of the storm.

Snow accumulations could range from 8 to 14+ inches, with higher amounts possible. Most of the snow is forecast for Sunday, January 25, 2026 into Monday.

“We are closely monitoring the National Weather Service forecasts and activating all appropriate response plans,” said Mayor Josh Nathan, overseeing his first storm just three weeks into the new job. “Our Department of Public Works crews and Police and Fire Departments are ready, but we also ask residents to take personal preparedness seriously and help keep our community safe.”

All Rye Recreation programs are cancelled for Sunday and Monday. City buildings will be closed on Monday. The Rye YMCA will be closed Sunday and may close Monday, saying it will make a determination later in the weekend.

Check on your elderly and at risk neighbors. Be careful out there!
