The Rye Hockey team earned a visually unappealing win over Mamaroneck on Wednesday, February 11, beating the Tigers 7-5 at home. The offense continues to shine for the Garnets, who have now scored 17 goals against Mamo in two wins, although they have ceded nine.
“This was a bit of an up and down game for us where we didn’t always play with the urgency we needed,” Head Coach Pete Thomas said after the game. “Ultimately, we stayed the course and got the important league win.”
The fireworks started immediately, with five combined goals in the first period, which Mamaroneck left up 3-2. The Garnets settled things down in the second period, winning the frame 2-0 before things erupted again for a five-goal third period.
Three of Rye’s goals came from Colin Nigro, his sixth, seventh, and eighth goals this season against the Tigers. Jamie Morris scored twice, and Jack McGill and Max Niejadlik both added one apiece. Finn Draddy and Will Weinman both recorded three assists each to lead the playmakers. The Rye power-play cashed in three times, looking dangerous in the process.
The Garnets (13-2-3) ride a four-game win streak into their final regular season game of the year on Friday, February 13, at Suffern. The game begins at 7:05 with both teams looking to clinch a league title. Rye is 1-0 vs the Mounties this year.
