The Rye Boys Lacrosse team wasted no time avenging their final game from last season on Saturday, March 28, as they topped the reigning Section 1 champion Somers Tuskers 12-5. The Garnets fell in the finals to Somers one year ago, but did not struggle to flip that result on its head in their 2026 season opener.

“We played together as a team,” Head Coach Jeremy Guski told MyRye.com. “The guys brought the energy and focus. It was a great win.”

Junior Charlie Brady led the Garnet attack with four goals and one assist, almost matching Somers’ score individually. Henry Gilroy also notched a hat trick plus an assist for four points. Somers’ Dylan Jimenez scored four of his team’s five goals, but had little offensive support behind him, unlike Brady and Gilroy.

The Garnets were especially strong in the second half, where they scored seven of their 12 goals despite taking the foot off the gas offensively for the final seven minutes in order to chew the clock. Somers struggled to get to the interior in the offensive zone throughout the game thanks to a physical Garnets defense.

Rye (1-0) is off and running in 2026, and they will look to improve to 2-0 in their next contest on Wednesday, April 1 against Cold Spring Harbor. The non-league challenge begins at 1:00pm at Nugent Stadium. Watch it here. Replay the win over Somers in the season opener here.
