The USGS said a 2.3‑magnitude earthquake occurred West of Sleepy Hollow at 10:17am on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Rye City officials said “There have been no reports of damage in our area, though some residents may have felt light shaking.”

The County’s Department of Emergency Services said late morning that it had not received any reports of operational impacts or damage to infrastructure.

“Officials at the former Indian Point site have also reported no impacts to operations and are conducting precautionary site surveys as part of their standard safety protocols,” said County Executive Ken Jenkins, not losing an opportunity to push back on Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) who just suggested days ago that the nuclear plant should be re-opened.

While this was a minor event, it is a reminder that Westchester County sits in a region where seismic activity can occur. Today’s earthquake underscores yet another reason why a nuclear power plant does not belong in Westchester County. The safety of our residents and the protection of the Hudson Valley must always come first.”

The Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant was shut down in 2021, its decommissioning overseen by Holtec International.
