The Rye Boys Tennis team continued their early-season winning ways on Thursday and Friday, April 9-10, knocking off John Jay-Cross River 6-1 and then sweeping Fox Lane 7-0. The Garnets have now won their first four matches of the year by a combined team score of 25-3.

The top doubles pair of Lou Kim-Reuter and Filip Glitterstam was the highlight of the match, drawing the largest crowd of other players and fans. The Garnet duo stayed consistent, winning both sets 6-2.
“I love to watch the speed of Lou Kim-Reuter and the steadiness of Filip Glitterstam,” proud Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com after the victory. “They make a strong team and play in sync, covering the court with both skill and speed.”

Rye picked up wins in two of the three other doubles matches, with their only loss coming via a 13-11 tiebreaker win for a JJCR team. At singles, the Garnets completely dominated: #1 Henry Groves won 6-2, 6-2; Luke Gordon breezed past Tim Partouche 6-2, 6-0; and Marcos Becker, debuting in singles, clinched his match 6-2, 6-0.
With the victory, Rye improved to 3-0 on the year, having only dropped one matchup in their three matches. They took that hot streak into a crossover (same section, but not a league opponent) home contest against Fox Lane the following day.
Friday vs Fox Lane
The Garnets continued to excel in their second match in as many days, sweeping Fox Lane 7-0. Despite playing with a much different lineup than Thursday, Rye hardly lost any individual games, let alone sets or matches.
“With a somewhat depleted team, Rye players stepped up to play singles or team up with new doubles partners,” Dickson told MyRye.com. “It was a great sweep for the Garnets to finish out the week with a 4-0 record.”
Groves, Becker (upgraded to second singles), and Timothy Morell all won 6-0, 6-0 at singles. Kim-Reuter and Glitterstam had the closest match, taking their 6-1, 6-4 at top doubles. The duo moved to 4-0 on the season with their sweep.
For other doubles teams, a first-time pairing of Tayga Vural and Luke Gordon won comfortably 6-1, 6-1 at second doubles. The new #3 pair of Nate Bertisch and Carter Hudspeth beat Alex Lau and Michael Arkin 6-0, 6-1. The final pairing of Rajan Patel and CJ Loizeaux also picked up a win in straight sets to complete the 7-0 sweep.
Rye (4-0) has the weekend off before another busy week, this time against the strongest opponents in Westchester – Mamaroneck, Horace Greeley, and Scarsdale. “Next week there will be some big challenges,” Dickson told MyRye.com.
