The #1 Rye Boys Lacrosse team clinched their spot in the 2026 Section 1 Class C championship game on Saturday, May 30, as they defeated #4 John Jay-Cross River 11-2. The Garnets move to within one win of a sectional championship after their complete effort in the semifinals, their final home game of the 2026 campaign.
“We came ready to play,” Head Coach Jeremy Guski told MyRye.com. “For our seniors, it was their last time playing on this home field. They led us to a lopsided victory.”
Senior Carson Miller tied Will Niejadlik for the team lead in points with five, although they arrived there in very different ways. Miller racked up a team-leading four assists, while his younger teammate led all players in the game with four goals. Juniors Henry Gilroy and Charlie Brady added two goals apiece, with the former also earning two assists.
“We really pushed the ball in transition with our fast breaks and slow breaks,” Guski continued. “Their goalie is very good but we put a lot of shots on net.”
By the end of the game, the unofficial shot tally read 25-8, with the Wolves’ goalie coming up with 14 saves in the losing effort. The Garnets got up to 22 shots on target before John Jay scored for the first time in the fourth and final quarter.
#1 Rye (13-5, 2-0 postseason) heads to Yorktown High School for the championship game, which will be played at 4:30pm on Wednesday, June 3. The Garnets face off against a familiar foe in Somers, the #2 seed, in a rematch of last year’s final game. The Tuskers won that one on June 3, 2025, as the two seed against the top-seeded Garnets.
After Saturday’s win, that loss one year ago stands as the Rye program’s only sectional tournament loss since 2018. A win means the Garnets are on to the early rounds of the state tournament. A loss means deja vu heartbreak. Replay the win over JJCR in the semis here.
