The Rye Arts Center has been awarded a $422,000 Capital Projects Grant by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to assist with the design of its planned campus expansion in the wake of its acquisition of the adjacent two acre property from a donor. In FY 2027, NYSCA will award over $161 million serving hundreds of arts organizations and artists across all 10 state regions.

“New York’s powerful arts and culture sector is a formidable asset,” said New York State Governor Kathy Hochul. “Our continued investments in museums, theaters, and art centers generate incredible returns — sparking innovation, boosting local economies, driving visitors, and making us the global epicenter of arts and culture.”

“The Rye Arts Center is a cornerstone of arts and culture in our community,” said Mayor Josh Nathan. “This significant  investment from New York State underscores the importance of this project and reflects confidence in its potential to benefit Rye residents and strengthen the whole community.”

Rye Art Center’s new campus is expected to include art studios, a makerspace, digital media labs, a wing dedicated to preschool arts, and increased programming for senior arts. Additionally, a new performance space with professional lighting, sound, and seating will be added to the Rye Arts Center, as well as a contemporary art gallery. The project will also create two new acres of public green space consisting of a sculpture garden, outdoor studio, and performance lawn.

“This grant is a powerful signal — from New York State and our entire arts community — that artistic and cultural expression can and will thrive in Rye for generations to come,” said Adam Levi, executive eirector, The Rye Arts Center. ”This grant accelerates the project’s evolution from aspiration to action, and for that, we are deeply grateful to the Governor, NYSCA, and all of our local supporters.”

“The New York State Council on the Arts Design Grant makes concrete the vision for the new arts campus, a vibrant cultural hub that will help our community thrive. As a long-time Rye resident, it is exciting to have more availability and access to the Arts in our community,” said Judith Passannante of The Rye Arts Center Board.
