For the fourth time in the past seven months, the Rye Garnets are New York State champions. First the first time since the program’s inception, the title belongs to the boys lacrosse team.

The Garnets started quick and continued to build in the title game on Sunday, June 14, eventually winning 15-9. Rye defeated Jamesville-DeWitt to win the title, the new crown jewel in an already fattened resume.

”This is what we prepared for all year,” Head Coach Jeremy Guski told MyRye.com. “Our boys were so dialed in and focused on the task at hand. We played together as a team and achieved our ultimate goal.”

The Red Rams kept pace with Rye through some of the first half before the Garnets roared ahead with a 5-0 run, which felt like an inevitability. Charlie Brady ended up with five goals to lead all players, adding an assist for six points. Henry Gilroy completed a strong season with a hat trick and a helper. Will Niejadlik, Thomas Goldszer, and Wilson Redd scored two points apiece, with Redd winning 18 of 24 faceoffs (75%). Henry Shoemaker and Rye Athlete of the Year Carson Miller both scored in their final high school games.

As the final seconds ticked away, the Garnets surrounded goaltender Sam LaMonte (who made ten saves) in his crease, as sticks and gloves went flying everywhere. For a program with 16 league titles, ten sectional championships, and seven regional title game victories, the Rye Boys Lacrosse team is now 1x New York State champs. Remarkably, they did it after an 11-5 regular season and under their first-year head coach.

With the win, the athletic year is officially over for the Rye Garnets. They won nine Section 1 championships in 2025-26 across several different class levels. Garnet teams combined to reach six New York State semifinals via regional championships, with four of them (football, girls soccer, hockey, and boys lacrosse) going on to win until they could win no more.

The success begs the question: does anywhere else have the same championships per capita rate that Rye does? And will anyone ever win three state championships again like Conor Crotty?
