The Rye Field Hockey team suffered their second consecutive defeat on Thursday, September 10, as they fell to John Jay-Cross River 2-1. The Garnets have now dropped back to back decisions after starting the year with a 3-0 shutout win against Clarkstown.
“Robyn Wilmont made several great defensive stops,” head coach Valerie Montano told MyRye.com after the game. “She came up with key turnovers to help us generate our offense.”
Wilmont played a large role in keeping the game close throughout, as did Rye’s goalkeeper, Tessa Zicari. The senior made nine stops and had several other important clears to keep the Wolves at bay.
Kaitlyn Coyne scored the lone tally for the Garnets, her second of the year.
Rye (1-2) will look to get back into the win column in their next game on Tuesday, September 15, against Horace Greeley. The home showdown begins at 5:00pm. Watch it here.
