The Rye Football team picked up where they left off last season in Week 0 on Friday, September 4, as they defeated Cornwall 39-21. The Garnets fed off a loud home crowd and dominated on the ground to start the season 1-0 in an impressive win against a quality Section 9 foe.
“Super effort by everyone, but especially our quarterback, Charlie Brady,” head coach Dino Garr told MyRye.com after the victory. “We’re off to a good start.”
Brady, who saw some time at QB in blowout wins in 2025 but never started until Friday night, ran for 231 yards and five touchdowns, including three of 40+ yards and two of 50+. Although he only threw for 84 yards, his efficiency with his legs kept the chains moving all night long.
Max An punched in a short run for the final score of the night for the Garnets. Both the running back and quarterback benefitted from solid play in the trenches.
“Our offensive line did a great job in the second half,” Garr continued. “Everyone just pulled together better.”
Although it was not a perfect game, as the head coach noted, Rye has to be satisfied with their Week 0 result, especially considering the roster turnover over the summer. The Garnets will take a 1-0 record into their Week 1 contest on Thursday, September 10, at Clarkstown South – another tough test.
