Rye FD Provides Mutual Aid During Port Chester Blaze Sunday

The Rye FD – along with many other fire departments – provided mutual aid Sunday during a massive five alarm fire in Port Chester.

Over 200 fire pros were dispatched to fight the fire that destroyed La Dolce Vita restaurant at 451 North Main Street and a three story multi-family residence next door at 455 North Main Street. The properties back up to the Byram River on the NY-CT border.

Rye FD was dispatched at 2:15pm, sending Engine 191 with two firefighters and one incident commander to standby at Port Chester FD headquarters. Rye joined departments from Greenwich, Thornwood and Tarrytown that provided backup to cover calls while Port Chester FD was battling the blaze on North Main.

Rye’s Engine 192 also relocated to Rye FD HQ from the Milton firehouse and two firefighters came in from off duty to provide coverage.

While in Port Chester, Rye FD Engine 191 responded to a to a reported car fire on Westchester Avenue. Engine 191 was back in Rye about five hours after dispatch at 7:07pm.
