In Memory – Mary Lou Jurs, Age 91
Mary Lou passed away at age 91 on September 19, 2020. She was born in Mamaroneck, NY, the youngest of 5 children of Michael and Mary Coyle-Rose.
Mary Lou raised her family in Rye, NY where she lived for 70 years. She was a member of the Rye Senior Citizens, St. Monica’s Mothers Club, Girl Scouts, and Mamaroneck K of C Columbiete’s. She was quick to take on other volunteer opportunities as time allowed.
In addition to raising her family, throwing the best parties and having an active life, Mary Lou always had drive and ambition, from a young age, to stretch and do more. She held many jobs growing up from selling decorative Christmas logs on the Post Road in Rye Neck for her industrious brother Jack when she was little, to working at the soda counter at Grants in New Rochelle. She spent many a day modelling at Bonwit Teller’s, held sales roles and then worked at Hospital Baby Portraits in Port Chester, NY for 31 years until she was 78.
Her legacy of lessons is large, but a few key takeaways are: Always strive to do more, Go the distance, Be brave, Ask questions and Never take no for an answer.
Mary Lou is predeceased by her loving and amazing husband George who passed away in 1983; her brothers and sister: Michael B, Rose, Daniel Rose, Jack Rose, and Betty Ferris all of Rye, NY. She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah and Patricia of Stamford, CT.
