A car in downtown Rye caught fire on Friday. The fire was quickly brought under control by Rye FD.
Public safety officials told MyRye.com the car had been caught in the flood. The owner had recovered the car, driven it for a short while and then left it in Car Park 1 off Locust Avenue where it later caught fire. An adjacent car was also consumed by the fire.
The City is warning residents to not run cars that have been submerged, and to bring these vehicles to a mechanic for proper inspection.
