The Rye City Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for the 2023 Human Rights Awards through next Friday, December 8th.

The Rye Human Rights Commission will present two awards later this month or in January. The first recognizes an individual (18+) or organization whose efforts in 2023 have made an important contribution to fostering human rights and/or relations in Rye City. Individuals who live or work in Rye City are eligible.

The second “Youth” award is open to individuals who are 18 years of age or younger who live in Rye or attend any of the schools in Rye City or Rye Neck and who have also made an important contribution to fostering human rights and/or relations in Rye City.

Last year, there were four winners of the 2022 Human Rights Award. The 2022 Rye Human Rights Award was awarded to Christine Groves. Groves has served as co-president of the Children’s Philanthropy of Rye (part of the Rye Women’s Club) for the past four years. The 2022 Rye Youth Human Rights Award recognized co-recipients in 2022. The first individuals were Rye Neck seniors James Fall and Eduardo Ruigomez. The second 2022 Rye Youth Human Rights Award was awarded to Rye High School junior AJ Miller.
