The Rye Hockey team snapped a decades-long losing streak to Suffern last season on January 8, and they’ve now compiled a winning streak against them. The Garnets beat the Mounties 4-2 on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, celebrating senior night with a huge victory over a perennial powerhouse in New York State hockey.

“This was such a great team effort,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com after the win. “Everyone contributed and everyone stayed the course. We never wavered as a group and earned this win tonight.”

Rye’s defense and penalty killing was the story of the game – the Garnets had to kill off 11 minutes of penalties, including a five minute major in a 3-2 game in the third period. In goal, Fernando Mosquera rose to the occasion with 28 saves on 30 shots and a win.

Rye has shown they can outscore their defensive lapses on some nights, but this victory proved they can win grittier, closer matchups, too.

Max Niejadlik scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and his brother Will also found the back of the net in the first period. Colin Nigro continued a stellar season with a late power-play goal to ice the game at 4-2.

The Garnets (12-2-3) have a rematch with Mamaroneck in their next game in a week on Wednesday, February 11. Rye previously defeated the Tigers on the road 10-3 on January 30. Puck drop is set for 7:45 at Playland.
