A beloved 20+ year old tradition has been cancelled.
This past holiday, we lost Mistletoe Magic. Now The Osborn retirement community has suspended its annual Jack Miller Easter Egg Hunt, citing securtity concerns.
“Over time, the event has grown significantly in size, with last year’s turnout resulting in very large crowds, heavy traffic, and cars parking along surrounding neighborhood streets,” Margaret Plofchan, vice president of marketing & development at The Osborn told MyRye.com. “After careful consideration, we made the difficult decision not to host the event this year to ensure the safety and security of the older adults who live on our campus, as well as our neighbors and visitors. While we miss gathering with our neighbors and friends in this way, we remain committed to supporting families in our community. In the spirit of the tradition, The Osborn will donate to our local food pantry, Bread of Life, to help ensure everyone in our community enjoys a wonderful holiday meal.”
In 2025, the event, named in memory of The Osborn’s longtime board member and former chair, Jack Miller, balooned to between 500 – 600 people. The Osborn is still considering if it will bring back the egg hunt in the future.
