The Rye Boys Lacrosse team recently won their first ever New York State championship, doing so by defeating Jamesville-DeWitt in the finals on June 14. Two key contributors to their 7-0 postseason were senior Carson Miller and first-year head coach Jeremy Guski. Miller won team MVP just days after becoming Rye’s latest Athlete of the Year via the Lion’s Club, and USA Lacrosse and New York State anointed Guski as 2026 Coach of the Year in Section 1.

“Carson is the most athletic player on our team,” the first-year bench boss told MyRye.com. “He is a guy who always puts the team first and he leads by example.”

Across the 23-game season, the senior scored 41 goals, 32 assists, 73 points, and added 60 ground balls. The offensive midfielder was always on the scoresheet, especially during the postseason, when the entire offense seemed to come alive at the right time for the Garnets. Miller played a big role in that, including 23 points in six playoff games.

“As a midfielder, you do plenty of things that don’t show up on the stat sheet, but they are very valuable to the team,” Guski continued. “This is Carson Miller.”

Miller’s two-way game earned him all-league and all-section honors. All his success should be viewed in the right context, as well – he played most of the season with various injuries that have since required professional medical attention. He also lost his preseason training while he battled for the basketball team.

Miller had the pleasure of playing for a coach who won just about everything possible in his first year at the helm in Jeremy Guski. Hired during the 2025 offseason, Guski took the reins at Rye and excelled, leading the Garnets to 18 wins and league, sectional, and regional championships – all accolades the program is familiar with – before also getting them over the state semifinals hump. The Garnets also won their next game to secure their first ever state title.

For his efforts, Guski earned New York State Coach of the Year honors for Section 1 and Section 1 Class C. To have success as a head coach is impressive. To have that much in an inaugural season is nearly unheard of. It is safe to say the Garnets made a good hire last year.

“These honors recognize Coach Guski’s leadership and dedication to the program throughout an exceptional season, culminating in the first Rye Class C New York State Championship,” the Rye City School District said on social media. “Congratulations on this well-earned achievement.”

Miller will continue his lacrosse career with Harvard starting next fall. Guski will return back to the Garnets in 2027 with the hope of winning back-to-back state titles.
