Tasers, Schubert & Outdoor Dining—Items on the Agenda for City Council Wednesday – June 10, 2009

A Ry Police Officer was seriously injured last year becuae he did not have access to the taser. Connors the Incompetent thought it was best to have the taser at Police Headquarters.

Connor’s idiotic policy was If the Officers on duty had a violent confrontation and needed the taser, one of those officers would have to leave the other officers who were struggling with a violent person to retrieve the taser at Police Headquarters. . By this time an officer or civilian could be seriously injured or killed. In fact, one Officer was already seriously injured because of Connors idiotic policy.

When this ridiculous and unsafe policy was tried to be revised by the Rye PBA, Connors resisted. When he was finally forced to come to his senses at the strong urging of City Management and their Attorney, Connors later relented and then lied when he said he never agreed to allow at least one officer carry it on duty in a holster. He then wanted the taser locked up in a box in a Police Squad car. Connors just doesn’t get it and has no clue how to run a police department or how to keep Rye Police Officers and the residents safe.

The use of the taser is in the escalation of force policy in the Rye Police Manual. An officer could be brought up on charges for not using the taser prior to other more lethal options even though Connors refused the officer (s) access to the taser. In additio,. Lawyers would have a field day if one of their clients was knocked senseless by a nightstick or even shot and killed while the taser was locked away at Police headquarters.

Connors cannot be trusted and should not be the Police Commissioner. He has told lies in the past and I believe has tried to retroactively correct problems that he created in the first place.

Shew and the City Council have always allowed Connors unprofessional conduct to continue unchecked while he has jeopardized the publics and officer’s safety numerous times.

Now that Shew has left, let’s see if Culross is going to do the right thing with Connors latest lie and misrepresentations.

My guess is Culross won’t address Connors incompetence and his endangering the public and the Rye Police Officers safety. I can think of 198,4000 reasons why Culross won’t do anything to hurt Otis and his reelection bid by doing the right thing and getting rid of Connors.

Perhaps one of the reasons why Connors doesn’t want the police to have tasers is that they tend to abuse them, and innocents are the victims.

A traffic stop for speeding in Travis County, Texas, led to the Tasering of a 72-year-old great-grandmother by a deputy. Feisty Kathryn Winkfein apparently so frightened the law-enforcement officer when she “used some profanity” and “got violent” that he felt it necessary to subdue her with a potentially dangerous jolt of electricity.

Winkfein was reportedly doing 60 in a construction zone where the posted speed limit was 45 when she was pulled over. She was ticketed but declined to sign the ticket, leading the police officer to place her under arrest lest civilization collapse for want of the surrender of a penny’s worth of ink.

At this point, the stories diverge. According to Precinct 3 Constable Richard McCain, Winkfein cursed and refused to cooperate. She says nothing of the sort occurred. “I wasn’t argumentative, I was not combative. This is a lie,” the woman told a news reporter for Fox 7.

Either way, it’s difficult to see how the issuance of a speeding ticket to an elderly woman devolved to the point where a grown, trained law-enforcement officer could be considered justified in subjecting the speeder to an electric jolt intended to disrupt her nervous system — no matter what command of profanity she displayed.

The trouble with blogs is the people that write in them generally are low life people that only want to cause trouble. Paul Shew was an honorable man that tried to do right by this town. He might have offended Mr. Shubert but he was trying to help him. Mr. Shubert is still here. What a surprise his engineers will find fault with Rye’s engineers. In this economy I shouldn’t have to pay anymore for his wet or dry property. As for the Police Commissioner, his only fault is that he wants to do what is right and just for this community. There are too many “bad” seeds that live in this town that like to cause trouble and make up lies. This isn’t kindergarten. The Police shouldn’t have to defend the truth. Too bad a few bad eggs just lie and lie and get away with it.

Perhaps the semi-literate writer will let us all know how a taser would have avoided the injury. As I recall, the attack on the PO was sudden and immediate. The only way the cop could have avoided injury would be to taser first, ask questions later.

The call that this Police Officer was sent to with two other officers was not for someone eating ice cream and littering the remnants of their cone. The call was for an unwanted male in the home of a woman he just happened to be assaulting. Had all three of the officers been equipped with tasers, this suspect could have easily been safely tasered prior to this officer or any other responding officer being injured.

Before and after this incident where this Police Officer was injured, Connors thought it was best to keep the tasers at the police station. This is simply more stupidity on the part of Connors and shows that Connors is incapable of properly and safely protecting the Police Officers and the residents of Rye.

Three officers to take down one guy? Sounds like they don’t know how to do their job. What’s wrong with a good old-fashioned nightstick?
