Rye Boys Varsity Football shucked the Yorktown Huskers by a kernel on Friday evening. The Garnets hit the road again for the third time in as many games. It was another comeback win, echoing last week’s battle with Brewster. The Garnets were down 5-0 at the half and eventually came back to mill a 13-12 win over the Huskers.

“We knew it was going to be a struggle,” said Rye Boys Varsity Football Coach Dino Garr. “Our defense did an outstanding job. We took a while to get going and then we kept shooting ourselves in the foot a bit with mistakes and penalties. And then we did show the character of our team, the persistence and the ability to come back when needed was a great thing. I think our whole defensive line did a great job [as did] our outside linebackers. Chris Guazzo had a great job. Rafferty [McSweeney] had a great game on offense and had two interceptions for us on defense. It brought the game back to us with a big 65 yard touchdown catch and then made the two big interceptions at the end to ice the game for us.”

“In another crazy game, the Rye cheerleaders helped lead the Garnets to victory,” said Rye Girls Varsity Cheerleading Coach Melissa Stone. “We are so thankful to the Yorktown cheer team for allowing us to use their spare mats so that we could show off some of our new stunting and tumbling skills. The team is looking forward to the first home game next week. We are asking all Garnets fans to be there and to be loud!”

The Garnets play Nyack at home Friday at 7pm – watch it.
