The Rye Boys Varsity Football team found itself bitten by the Harrison Huskies in front of a 5,000+ crowd watching “The Game” at Nugent Stadium. A number of mistakes allowed the Huskies to pull their team to a 22-7 victory.

“The first half we gave them a couple of big plays,” said Rye Boys Varsity Football Coach Dino Garr. “Despite that the score was 13-7, we felt like we were in pretty good shape if we could come out and do a sustained drive. [But] we kept making mistakes which has been a problem we’ve been having all year – the inconsistency of putting on a sustained drive. We finally put a drive together and we had a touchdown called back because of holding and at that time it would have been 19-14 and you never know what would have happened.”

“We made so many mistakes that it costs the game. We have to learn from it and we have to get better – if we don’t the seasons is going to be pretty much what it is,” continued Garr. On next week’s match up versus Clarkstown South? “They are undefeated. It’s going to be a tough game. We are going to find out what we have to do to get back into winning.”

Cheerleading

“Our team cheered loud and proud, despite the outcome of the game we are proud to be Garnets!,” said Rye Girls Varsity Cheerleading Coach Belinda DeFonce. “We were also missing some key members, so with several last minute changes our team worked hard and hit a solid halftime routine. I could not be more proud of them! Let’s go Rye!!!”
