Terrence “Terry” McCartney

Terrence McCartney, known to friends and family as Terry, was born in Wahiawa, Hawaii. He was commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps through ROTC at the Virginia Military Institute. While at VMI, McCartney met his wife, Julia Rheingold, who was raised in Rye.

McCartney was stationed in Egypt in 1987 and later in Okinawa, Japan from 1987-88. In 1989, he joined the staff at the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, where he taught infantry tactics. McMcartney left active duty in 1990 to attend law school in Miami, Florida.

While in law school, McCartney served as a platoon commander and training officer in an Anti-Tank Company in the Marine Corps Reserves. He returned to active duty during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and was eventually Honorably Discharged in 1997, holding the rank of Major. 

After graduating from law school, McCartney, Rheingold, and their infant son Jack moved to New York after he took a job with a law firm in New York City. Their second son Daniel was born in 1996 and the family moved to 450 Park Avenue in Rye in 2001. 

McCartney has been active in volunteer work in Rye for many years, coaching youth sports, serving on the City Council from 2013-2017, and being the Chair of the Rye Golf Club Commission. He also founded the Rye Boxing Club in 2005.

McCartney is now a partner in the law firm of McCartney Stucky LLC with offices in Rye and Kansas City, Missouri. He has been a member of Rye American Legion Post 128 for 20 years. He hosts a popular golf tournament at the Rye Golf Club on Memorial Day every year to raise money for Post 128. Terry McCartney was honored to receive the Americanism Award from Post 128 in May of 2021. More on McCartney.
