It was a robocall gone wild. A good message, but a bad delivery.
In the overnight hours early on Monday, September 29, 2025 Westchester County launched a robocall to an untold number of residents. It was a good message – about Westchester County’s Department of Environmental Facilities (WCDEF) Household Recycling Day events, including one at Playland. But the robocall went out between 12 midnight and 2:00am.
Yikes.
“Westchester County sincerely apologizes for the automated call that was received shortly after midnight,” said Westchester County Communications Director Catherine Cioffi. “Due to a programming error, the call was mistakenly scheduled to go out at 12:01 a.m. instead of 12:01 p.m. The call was not intended for release at that time, and the system error has been corrected to ensure this does not occur again. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate the community’s understanding.”
The call prompted City of Rye officials to issue a statement about the call, explaining “This call did not come from the City of Rye” and sharing the message from the County that the robocall had been incorrectly scheduled.
