Sydney C. Wraggee was born on March 10, 1908, in New York. He lived on Lake Road in Rye and later in Boca Raton, Florida. Sydney served as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

He studied at New York University then took a job as a stock clerk for a shirt making concern. After a few years he bought B. H. Wragge, a custom shirt house, adopted its name as his own, and turned it into manufacturing company. Wragge produced skirts before expanding his line to include dresses, coats, and suits. He was a master of colors and fabrics, producing elegant and understated designs. He won the Coty award in 1952 and 1957, and the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award in 1961. He was one of the founding members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and served as its first president.

In his retirement Wragge divided his time between New York, Florida, and New Jersey, during which he developed an art museum at Florida Atlantic University. He passed away from bone marrow cancer aged 70 in Boca Raton. He was survived by his wife Phyllis, their three daughters, and three brothers.
