On Friday, Judge Cathy Seibel at US District Court in White Plains granted the City of Rye additional time to finalize its plan for ongoing sewer infrastructure management. A final plan is needed as part of the City’s settlement with the Save the Sound (STS) environmental group. The City will have until March 31, 2026 to complete its plan.

“The extension was provided to allow us to work out our differences and we are optimistic and hopeful that we’ll be able to do so,” said Roger Reynolds, senior legal director at Save the Sound.

The City has spent $14 million in the wake of the suit and settlement to upgrade its sewage infrastructure (just one of the many reasons there has been so much roadway construction in Rye). This last back and forth is to assure a proper and agreed monitoring and upkeep schedule going forward.

If the parties do not agree by the new deadline, expect them back in court some time in April.
