The Rye Boys Squash team picked up their sixth win of the season on Tuesday, January 20, as they squeaked past Staples (based in Westport) 4-3. The Garnets have maintained their perfect record since the season began, with the victory on Tuesday being their closest of the year.

“Although Rye was missing two of their regular starters, Nate Kim-Reuter and Michael Talbott delivered clutch performances to guide the team,” Head Coach Quan Huynh told MyRye.com on Wednesday.

Kim-Reuter and Talbott rose the depth chart with some key starters missing for Huynh, and prevailed with wins in the best-of-three format. The Rye Squash program is known for its depth throughout all levels, and that came to the forefront against Staples to keep the winning streak alive.

Each win is critical for the Garnets, who continue to keep pace with Greenwich atop the Fairwest League standings. Both schools have yet to lose, and won’t play each other until February.

Rye (6-0) has another test next on their schedule – a non-league match against Hackley on Thursday, January 22. The contest begins at 4:30pm. Huynh called this match their “biggest challenge of the season so far” after the win vs Staples.
