The Rye Hockey team saw their hot stretch suffer its first hiccup on Friday, January 16, as they fell to Rivertown 4-2 on the road. The Garnets have now lost only two games during the 2026 season, with both coming to the Legends by identical scores.

“I was proud of how our guys played tonight,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com after the game. “We carried play most of the game and definitively out-chanced them, especially in high danger opportunities. Sometimes, a hot goalie can steal a game, and that’s what happened tonight.”

As has been the case most of the season, the Garnets pressured their opponent with shots on goal, but they struggled to bury some of their chances on Friday evening. Trevor Dolan and Jamie Morris did both find the back of the net, but it was not enough against a Legends team that is exceeding expectations this season.

Rye (9-2-1) will have another chance at their tenth win on Friday, January 23, as they go on the road once again to face Shenendehowa High School. Shenendehowa is based just north of Albany, and this will mark the Garnets’ third trip of the season to upstate NY.
