The Rye Hockey team earned their sixth win in the last seven games on Tuesday, January 13, as they knocked off Pelham 4-1 in a statement rivalry win. Seven different Garnets reached the scoresheet in the comeback victory against a bitter rival, fueled by a three-goal second period.

“I’m just so proud of how our guys played tonight,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com after the game. “They knew the plan and executed. They also showed their resolve after being down 1-0… they never wavered and and came out with a huge response in the second.”

Trailing by a goal after 17 minutes of play, Rye potted three goals in the second frame to flip the game upside down. Ryan Draddy tied it at 1-1, Jamie Morris tallied the eventual game-winner, and Connor Dehmer collected his long-awaited first career varsity goal, forcing the Pelicans to call timeout just to stay in the game. In the third, although Pelham pushed, Rye’s Cody Greenhaw was the only one to score for either team.

The Garnets are 6-0-1 since starting the year 1-1, and took three of a possible four points against the Pelicans after tying them on January 7. Better yet, goaltender Fernando Mosquero is heating up – after his shutout last game against Canton, he saved 33 of 34 shots tonight for the win.

Rye (8-1-1) will look to stay hot in their next contest, a road matchup with Clarkstown North later today, Wednesday 1/14. It is the fourth of five road games on the Garnets’ season-long trip, on which they are currently 3-0. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30pm at the Palisades Mall.
