“We are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of our residents, said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins when the County announced its emergency declaration on Saturday. “We strongly urge everyone to stay home if possible.”
The County declaration is effective Sunday at 6pm. On Sunday morning, the County added a road ban beginning at 9pm, Sunday, February 22, through 10am Monday, February 23. Roads are closed to all but essential travel (police, fire and ambulance).
On Sunday, the City of Rye followed, with Mayor Josh Nathan declared a State of Emergency in the City of Rye effective 6:00pm Sunday evening. All vehicle traffic except for essential personnel is prohibited from 7:00pm Sunday to 10:00am Monday. Nathan also temporarily suspended the City’s purchasing and procurement policies for storm related expenses, and suspended the City Council Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 until Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
“All indicators point to this being a serious snow event that will impact our City for several days. Our Department of Public Works, Fire Department, and Police Department will be working around the clock to keep our community safe and maintain essential services. We are asking residents to take this storm seriously — please stay home, stay off the roads, and stay safe,” said Nathan.
