The #3 Rye Girls Basketball team fell in the Section 1 Class AA semifinals on Monday, March 2, losing 33-29 to #2 Ossining. The close loss ends the Garnets’ season and marks the end of their push to repeat as Sectional champions.
Rye’s defense was a major storyline in the loss, holding the Pride to zero points in the third quarter after just 16 in the first half. However, the Garnet offense struggled to gain any momentum from the field or in the paint, as they were held to a season-low 29 points, including just twelve in the first two quarters combined.
Rye actually led 20-16 at the end of quarter number three, but Ossining stormed back for a strong final frame to pick up the victory and move on to the championship round. Although this was their third victory over the Garnets in 2026, this was easily the closest contest of the three.
Rye ends the year at 18-5, including 2-1 in the postseason. Margo Hackett and her team started the year 13-0, a stretch of which included the emergence of freshman Charlotte Storz into both a present and future star, and incumbent star Phoebe Greto surpassing 1,000 career points. The Garnets won the Orange Bracket Championship with a 3-0 record on their Miami trip over Christmas break and contended for a league title throughout the season, up until the final games. Despite battling the injury bug, the team ended the year with a .783 win percentage and have plenty to look forward to in 2027.
