Rye Girls Soccer continued its impressive early season run with a 3-0 victory over John Jay-Cross River on Monday, striking three times in the second half to come away with a 3-0 shutout win. The teams played to a scoreless first half before Rye’s mounting pressure finally broke through in the second.

Bowyn Brown scored the second goal for Rye and added an assist on the third as the only Garnet with multiple points in the balanced attack. Parker Calhoun broke the ice six minutes into half #2 on a cross from Charlotte Keenan. Soon after, it was the other Keenan sister setting up a goal, as Lyla served a brilliant ball which Brown finished with a silky header. Claire Curran dropped the cherry on top with an insurance marker to cap off the dominant half for Rye.

Tess Labowitz did what she needed to do with three saves to earn the shutout. Claire Nemsick’s ever-solid presence on the back line did not go unnoticed by Head Coach Rich Savage, who made sure to mention her defensive efforts in his postgame report.

The Garnets (4-1-0) will take their undefeated record into their first league matchup on Friday, September 20, against Byram Hills. Watch that game here. Review Rye’s victory over JJCR here.
