On Wednesday, the Board of Education appointed Nick Clair as the next principal for Rye Middle School. Clair was already serving in an interim capacity.
Clair joined the Rye community in 2022 as the middle and high school instructional coach. In that role, he designed and facilitated professional learning for RMS and RHS teachers, wrote curriculum, designed specialized learning experiences in collaboration with teachers, and worked with the Special Education Department’s Building Bridges Program to provide co-teaching instruction.
In 2024, Clair went on to assume the role of the middle school’s assistant principal. As assistant principal, he worked to promote both the academic and social-emotional development of students. He also led professional development for faculty and staff, focusing on how to best meet the needs of all students across curricular areas.
In July of 2025, he was appointed interim principal of Rye Middle School when then-Principal Joseph DiGiovanni became Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.
Prior to coming to Rye, Mr. Clair completed an administrator internship at F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY. He began his teaching career as a high school mathematics teacher at F.D. Roosevelt and then at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY.
Clair attended Hartwick College where he achieved his Bachelors of Arts degree in Mathematics Education. He then went on to pursue his Masters in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University before earning his Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration from Stony Brook University.
Clair lives in Dutchess County with his wife, Erica, and four children.
