Diana Williams is an Emmy Award–winning journalist best known for her long career as a television news anchor and reporter at WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News in New York City. For more than two decades, she was one of the most recognizable faces in New York broadcast journalism, delivering nightly news to millions of viewers.
Early Life and Career
Williams was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1958. After graduating from Duke University in 1980 with a degree in economics, she began her career in broadcasting, first in Durham, North Carolina, and later in Charlotte. Her sharp reporting skills and on-air presence led her to KABC-TV in Los Angeles, where she anchored news programs before moving to New York City in 1991 to join WABC-TV.
At Channel 7, Williams became a central figure in the station’s Eyewitness News team, anchoring the 5:00 p.m. newscast for over 20 years. Her reporting covered major local, national, and international events, including the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, papal visits, and presidential elections. She was known for her steady demeanor, credibility, and ability to connect with audiences during breaking news coverage.

Awards and Recognition
Over her career, Williams earned multiple Emmy Awards for her reporting and anchoring. She also moderated political debates, reported from overseas, and was praised for her ability to explain complex issues with clarity and empathy.
Connection to Rye, New York
Diana Williams has long been a resident of Rye, where she and her family have lived during her years commuting into Manhattan for her broadcasting career. Her connection to Rye is not just residential; she has also been active in local community and charitable events. In 2016, she attended a luncheon for the Rotary Club of Rye, pictured with Lora Hugelmeyer, Rye Rotarian and District Governor-Elect, and Pam Dwyer, Rye Rotary President.
Her retirement from broadcasting in September 2019 was noted locally in Rye as well as citywide.
