In a battle of two unbeaten programs, the Rye Girls Soccer team shut out Pearl River 2-0 on the road on Tuesday, September 30. The Garnets held on despite encountering a tough Pirates’ team in the first half, and struck twice after halftime to come away with the clean sheet win.
“Charlotte Keenan was able to return for some minutes after recovering from injuries, providing a boost for the Garnets,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com. “After a scoreless first half, Rye came out with renewed energy, keeping the ball on the ground and moving it effectively around the Pirates.”
Productive freshman Harkin Brown drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick goal from Hannah Jachman. Brown then doubled the lead, slotting a rebound off the post after the Garnets built a full-field attack.
“Rye’s defense stayed composed, led by captain Clare Nemsick along with outside backs Julia Carballo and Ella Fleckton,” Savage continued. The stingy back line and solid goaltending from veteran Tessa Labowitz helped Rye to another shutout.
Rye (7-0-3) has won four consecutive games, three via the clean sheet, and remain without a loss heading into their next game. The Garnets travel to play Albertus Magnus at 4:00pm on Saturday, October 4.
