The Rye Field Hockey team fell to Horace Greeley on Wednesday, October 8, falling 3-0. The Garnets’ seven-game winning streak comes to a close in their second shutout defeat of the season.

“In the 3rd quarter, Cara Bartlett had an incredible defensive save after a corner to keep us in a competitive game,” Head Coach Valerie Perkins told MyRye.com after the game. “Greeley had a corner and Chloe Holden made the initial save, but there was a rebounded shot. Bartlett stepped in to stop the rebound from being a goal.”

At that point, Rye was still within striking distance of the Quakers, and Bartlett and Holden combined for the best play of the game for the Garnets. Holden ended the game with seven saves despite the loss. Horace Greeley saw three different players all score one goal, two of which were assisted.

Rye (10-2) has another non-league game on tap next, but not before a nice six-day rest period. The Garnets host Mahopac on Tuesday, October 14, at 5:00pm. Watch the loss to Horace Greeley here (note: a SportsEngine account is required to view).
