The Rye Field Hockey Team recorded their second consecutive 4-0 victory on Tuesday, October 21, as they defeated the Scarsdale Raiders on their turf. The Garnets closed the regular season in dominant fashion and will enter the playoffs at 14-2 and as they #1 seed for the sectional playoffs.

“The Scarsdale goalie and defense worked hard to shut us down in the first quarter,” Head Coach Valerie Perkins remarked after the game. “Going into the second quarter we made some adjustments and Beau Whaling had a shot from the top of the circle to the opposite post to get us on the board.”

Whaling’s tally broke a scoreless tie and opened the floodgates for the Garnets, who also received two goals from Maggie Swanson in her best effort of the season and one from Sienna Myers. Whaling, Kendall Bahl, and Kira Woolsey all chipped in one assist each. The Garnets peppered the Raiders’ netminder Laura Chestnut with 17 shots.

The Garnets enter the postseason as the top seed with a 14-2 record, and winners of five straight games. Since their last loss, Perkins’ team is averaging six goals per contest (30 total). They have also notched three consecutive shutouts. To say they are hot heading into the sectional tournament would be a slight disservice.
