The #1 Rye Field Hockey team fell 1-0 in the sectional championship game on Saturday, November 1, losing to #3 Horace Greeley. The Quakers clinched the sectional title with their victory, having eliminated the #2 Lakeland Hornets and #1 Garnets on their run. Rye’s season ends with the defeat.
Chloe Holden made incredible saves throughout the game… she once again proved how valuable she is to our team,” Head Coach Valerie Perkins said after the game. “There were a few times where there were scrambles in front of the goal and she stayed focused and patient in order to clear the ball out.”
Holden concluded her remarkable season with 24 saves/clears and only goal against, her first mistake since the postseason began. Rye only generated two shots on offense as Horace Greeley applied the pressure from start to finish.
“I am so proud of everything the team accomplished this year,” Perkins continued. “We had 11 dedicated seniors who were leaders to our underclassmen. They battled in this game and played up until the last second. We’ll definitely be looking forward to next year and competing for a chance to win a Section title.”
In Perkins’ first year at the helm, Rye improved from 13-7 to 16-3, and went all the way to the Section 1 Class A championship game. They clinched their third league title since 2020, which included clutch comeback wins over both John Jay-Cross River and Lakeland. Liv Prata’s OT winner against the Wolves in the sectional semifinals is one of the best moments of the fall for any Rye athletic team. Even with 11 seniors, including four captains, graduating, there is a lot to be excited about for this Garnets’ field hockey team in 2026.
