The City of Rye has a new assistant city manager.
The City announced on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 that John Sullivan, who was first hired as assistant to the city manager in April 2024 by former city manager Greg Usry, has been promoted to the role of Assistant City Manager, effective immediately. Sullivan will continue to work under Brian Shea, who was elevated to city manager after the departure of Greg Usry in the spring of 2025.
“John has been an invaluable asset to me and the City since joining our team in 2024,” said City Manager Brian Shea. “He consistently steps up and brings a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach to complex municipal issues. His professionalism has earned him the respect of his peers here in Westchester County and across New York State. I am thrilled to have him take on this role.”
“John has been a steady and trusted presence for the City during a time of transition,” said Mayor Josh Nathan. “This promotion reflects both his talent and the respect he has earned across our organization. I’m confident he will continue to serve the Rye community with distinction.”
Prior to joining the City of Rye, Sullivan earned his Master of Public Administration (MPA) while working at SUNY Brockport. He began his career in municipal government with the Village of Tuckahoe.
