The Rye Tennis team broke a minor slump on Friday, April 24, defeating an overmatched Edgemont squad 7-0. The Garnets entered the crossover match with three losses in their previous four games on their ledger, but proudly advertised the length and talent within their lineup to start the weekend.

“The team played with unity and positivity today which was great,” Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com. “This is reflective of how they can come together collectively to get the win.”

Edgemont frequently plays only two singles and three doubles matches against their opponents, but stretched themselves out to play the standard 3-4 format against Rye – who of course play seven matches every time. Rye earned the sweep and did not drop any sets. Two of their wins – at first singles and fourth doubles – ended with injury retirement.

Henry Groves, Marcos Becker, and Luke Gordon won in singles, and Lou Kim-Reuter, Filip Glitterstam, Xavier Morell, Tayga Vural, Philip Karajannis, Dylan Smailes, Carter Hudspeth, and Aran Subramanian all won at doubles. For Subramanian, he earned his first individual victory in his varsity debut thanks to a Panthers’ retirement.

“I was really proud the way [the players] conducted themselves on and off the courts,” Dickson continued. “It’s a team of true gentlemen who genuinely care about the sport of tennis.”

The Garnets improve to 6-3 on the year and will seek victory number seven on Tuesday, April 28, as they host John Jay at 4:30pm.
