Westchester County started a new COVID-19 reporting regime on Tuesday that breaks down total, active and new COVID-19 by locality. Previously only a running total has been provided.

For Tuesday, Westchester reported City of Rye numbers:

  • 197 total COVID-19 cases since inception;
  • 29 active COVID-19 cases (this assumes the remaining 168 have run the average two week contagion cycle and are no longer active;
  • 5 new COVID-19 cases.

Also today, Westchester County announced it has been granted permission by New York State to begin testing in all nursing homes. Rye guy and Westchester County boss George Latimer had mentioned this briefly on Monday, but expanded his comments Tuesday.

“Nursing homes have accounted for a significant number of fatalities. Obviously, residents there have existing health care issues and that creates a climate for the worst possible scenario,” said Latimer. “Advanced age has been the single demographic that links the vast majority of Covid-19 related deaths and this is an important part of what we as the County are doing.”

Just like everyone else, Latimer is looking at the NY State COVID-19 tracker for county and state level statistics on the pandemic.

Important to note expanded reporting now shows fatality data from all nursing homes in the State, including The Osborn in Rye.

The COVID-19 numbers:

  • Fatalities of Westchester residents: 1,116
  • Fatalities at Westchester nursing homes – The Osborn Home in Rye is reporting three (3) confirmed COVID-19 deaths and five (5) presumed COVID-19 deaths as of May 3rd. There is no data from Rye Manor or Vienna Senior Housing.)
  • Fatalities in Westchester: 1,236
  • Numbers of persons tested: 101,497
  • Tested positive: 30,240
  • % Positive results: 29.8%
  • Persons tested today: 1,225
  • New positives today: 143
