Rye Girls Varsity Lacrosse star and RHS’ 20 alumnus Jordan Basso is having an extremely successful season with the University of Florida in 2025, and it may have peaked on Sunday, May 11. The graduate student scored four goals in a 9-8 2OT victory for the Gators over Stanford, propelling #4 Florida to the NCAA tournament quarterfinals. The memorable performance was Basso’s first 4-goal game at the Division 1 level and her seventh hat trick of the season.
Basso graduated from Rye High School in 2020, where she was a four-year varsity letter winner in lacrosse, a tenure that included 72 goals, 127 points, and one Sectional Championship in 2017. She was twice named to the All-League Team and once the All-Section team while at Rye before graduation.
Post-grad, Basso attended Gettysburg College, where she racked up countless awards and honors throughout her four years as a Division III athlete. Most impressively, she finished her career with 228 goals (second all-time in program history) and 360 points (most all-time). Her immense success led to interest from Division 1 schools, and she chose to take a fifth year at Florida to play D1 lacrosse.
It is very rare to see a high school athlete play at the collegiate level. It is even rarer to see them jump from the division three level to the top division one level. Rarest of all is to witness someone make that jump and become an instrumental asset on the fourth best team in the country at D1. But, Jordan Basso did that.
Basso, about to earn her Master’s degree in management, has 72 points with the Gators through 21 games, third on the team. Her 36 assists place her 2nd and her .643 shooting percentage paces Florida, the number-four team in the NCAA and champions of the Gainesville Region thanks to the double overtime thriller over Stanford on Sunday. Although Basso did not score the winner, her four goals in regulation time helped Florida escape with the victory and advance to the NCAA tournament quarterfinals.
Basso and the rest of the Gators shift their focus to #15 Duke on Thursday, May 15, in search of their third consecutive tournament victory. If they defeat the Blue Devils, the Gators will be just two wins away from a national championship. Catch Basso in action at 2:30pm on Thursday on ESPNU or streamed on ESPN+.
