Every year, the Westchester County Clerk’s office stations a mobile passport truck in front of Rye’s City Hall to allow residents to renew or apply for a new passport. This year, the truck visited the village green on Wednesday, June 25, and helped 27 customers.

“The County Clerk’s mobile office visits every one of the 25 cities and towns in the county annually,” Idoni told MyRye.com. “The main focus of the office is to provide easy access right in one’s home town for applying for a new passport. We also give our residents the ability to apply for a business certificate, file their DD-214 veteran’s discharge papers and  access our free notarization services.”

Residents can walk right up to the truck without an appointment and share with the mobile office’s staff what service they need.

“The mobile office is staffed by the community education coordinator and one to three staff members trained as passport agents, notaries and the two other legal paper filings. Staffing levels vary based on the locality’s population and previous years’ participation levels,” said Idoni.

For over two decades, the mobile office has provided services to Westchester residents.

“The mobile office has actually been in service since the year 2000. However, we have greatly expanded it around 2007,” said Idoni.

While the truck travels to the 25 cities and towns annually, the community outreach aspect allows the mobile truck team to also schedule events at local colleges and universities such as SUNY Purchase, Westchester Community College, and Pace University.
